A Place For
Growth
Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine (BGCSM) is expanding our Cumberland Avenue campus to ensure more young people have the space, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.
The new Greater Portland Youth Campus will allow us to serve more children and teens each day and deepen our impact for generations to come.
Why We're Building
Across Southern Maine, many youth face challenges that can limit their futures — from food insecurity and lack of after-school support to barriers to college and career pathways.
At the same time, Maine’s economy needs a prepared and diverse workforce. This construction project is a direct response: expanding access to safe spaces, caring mentors, and meaningful learning opportunities that build confidence, belonging, and long-term success.
The Greater Portland
Youth Campus
The project brings together two complementary spaces designed for different stages of youth development. Together, these spaces will form a unified campus that doubles our daily capacity and better supports youth at every age and stage:

Designed for
the Future
With flexible layouts, sustainable upgrades, and community-centered design, the Greater Portland Youth Campus is built to serve Southern Maine’s youth well into the next century.
A central component of the planned expansion is our strategic partnership with Avesta Housing to support affordable housing in Portland’s Bayside neighborhood—home to many BGCSM families. As part of the proposal, we donated a parcel of land on Cedar Street where Avesta Housing will develop up to 30 modern affordable housing units, ensuring the replacement and expansion of affordable housing as part of the overall campus redevelopment.

“I have experienced firsthand the dramatic impact BGCSM has on youth in Southern Maine. Their work helps prepare these fine young children and teens for a lifetime of success, and there are more children than ever in need of their services to ensure that they will realize their dreams.”QUINCY HENTZEL, CEO

IMPACT for Youth and Community
The outcome is simple: more young people prepared to lead healthy, confident, and successful lives.
